Jeremy Affeldt
Relief Pitcher | Kansas City Lords
Pitching He's unflappable on the mound, possessing the confidence to throw any of his offerings at any time in the count. This guy has closer written all over him. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Affeldt's fastball was clocked at 95 MPH most of the season and he kept excellent control of it. He generates few groundballs, though he keeps the ball in the park. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting Runners do not get a good jump on Affeldt... many have noted that his motion is difficult to pick up. He fields both bunts and slow groundballs in front of the plate equally well. Affeldt is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Affeldt has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook The Kansas City Lords were smart, they locked Affeldt up to a long term contract. Affeldt has impressed at the A-ball level. Look for the Kansas City Lords to give him a shot in Double or Triple A before the year is up. I really like what this kid brings to the table.
