Spider Allanson
First Baseman | Montreal Expos
Hitting Allanson is an excellent mistake hitter who belts middle-of-the-plate fastballs or hanging breaking balls. One of the nice things about Spider is that he's a real clutch hitter. Allanson always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. He hangs in well against lefthanders' breaking balls, and some of the pitchers he hits best are the southpaw specialists often brought in to face him. Left field, right field, center: this guy puts it all over.
Baserunning & Defense Allanson is an intelligent baserunner with average speed, but he's not a basestealing threat. When you play Allanson you're not putting him in for his glove. Spider's arm leaves a little to be a desired.
2010 Outlook The Montreal Expos were smart, they locked Allanson up to a long term contract. Allanson has impressed at the A-ball level. Look for the Montreal Expos to give him a shot in Double or Triple A before the year is up.
