Backman never has been a patient hitter. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. You can expect Jeff Backman to hit the ball to the opposite field... that's just the kind of hitter he is.

Baserunning & Defense
Minor league scouts have accused Backman of being a liability in the field. Jeff's arm leaves a little to be a desired. Backman's absolutely no threat to steal and doubles must be obvious for him to chance advancing.

2010 Outlook
What The Free Agents was thinking when they signed Backman to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks.
