Sweetums Bignose
Relief Pitcher | Nevada Stars
Pitching This guy has closer written all over him. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Bignose's fastball was clocked at 95 MPH most of the season and he kept excellent control of it. The Nevada Stars hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He tends to work slowly when in a jam, which just makes his problems worse by lulling his fielders to sleep. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! Bignose has no endurance. He's good for an inning an outing, tops. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting He's average in terms of controlling the running game. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Bignose is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Bignose has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook The Nevada Stars signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Bignose like a hot potato if something better comes along.
