Vida Blue
Starting Pitcher | Chicago White Sox
Pitching His slider is sharp and breaks both horizontally and vertically. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. Blue can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball is just average, and therefore he relies heavily on placing it in different parts of the strike zone. He generates few groundballs, though he keeps the ball in the park. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting Blue has a very good move to first base, and he varies it so that he's extremely difficult to read. Blue is nothing special in the field. Blue is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Blue has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook The Chicago White Sox were smart, they locked Blue up to a long term contract. Blue has impressed at the A-ball level. Look for the Chicago White Sox to give him a shot in Double or Triple A before the year is up. I really like what this guy brings to the table.
