Pedro Borbon
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! Borbon has no endurance. He's good for an inning an outing, tops. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Borbon's curveball tends to hang. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties. Borbon struggles on the road.
Defense & Hitting He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. His windup, though, makes him an easy target to run on. Borbon is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Borbon has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Borbon as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook AA isn't the right place for Borbon. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down for some minor retooling. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
