Jerry DiPoto
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than DiPoto, and that's saying a lot. He's almost as effective against righthanders as he is versus lefthanders. DiPoto struggles on the road.
Defense & Hitting He has a fair pickoff move and isn't a particularly easy target for basestealers. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. DiPoto is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but DiPoto has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use DiPoto as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook If DiPoto doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
