Shawn Estes
Starting Pitcher | Seattle Mariners
Pitching Estes forces hitters to keep the ball on the ground. Estes performs extremely well in the late innings, but unfortunately his endurance prevents him from getting there very often. Estes commands a stupefying curveball. This curve is what makes him one of the most dominant lefties in the game. Estes is a control pitcher; when he's on he has pinpoint control. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Estes's fastball is a tick above average, in the 90-91 MPH range on most nights. Estes also has a decent changeup. This man owns lefties. Put it this way, if your lineup is full of them, you might want rethink your lineup. Estes struggles on the road.
Defense & Hitting Estes remains one of the best fielding pitchers in the game's history. He has a quick pickoff move, but sometimes concentrates on pitching so much that he forgets about runners. Estes is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Estes has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook Estes has arguably the best stuff in baseball.
