Todd Etler
Starting Pitcher | Detroit Tigers
Pitching Etler forces hitters to keep the ball on the ground. He's unflappable on the mound, possessing the confidence to throw any of his offerings at any time in the count. Etler performs extremely well in the late innings, but unfortunately his endurance prevents him from getting there very often. Etler's bread-and-butter pitch is a devastating sinking changeup that he'll throw to any batter in any count. Etler is a control pitcher; when he's on he has pinpoint control. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Etler's fastball was clocked at 95 MPH most of the season and he kept excellent control of it. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties. Etler struggles on the road.
Defense & Hitting Etler has lots of energy. He comes off the mound like a cat and doesn't make many errors. Basestealers rarely test him. Etler is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Etler has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook Etler has arguably the best stuff in baseball.
