Eric Gunderson
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. He's almost as effective against righthanders as he is versus lefthanders.
Defense & Hitting His slow delivery makes him fairly easy to steal upon, but Gunderson helps himself by holding runners with throws to first, and with slide steps and varied deliveries to home. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Gunderson is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Gunderson has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Gunderson as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook Gunderson flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down promptly. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Gunderson.
