Don Herman
Relief Pitcher | Anaheim Angels
Pitching His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average reliever. Herman has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. The Anaheim Angels hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Steals sometimes unnerve Herman, who isn't blessed with extraordinary self-confidence. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Herman, and that's saying a lot. No one questions this kid's heart. They do question why he just can't get it done late in the game. In his first taste of the majors, he has kept righthanders in check but wasn't as effective against lefties.
Defense & Hitting His windup, though, makes him an easy target to run on. Herman doesn't field his position well. Herman is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Herman has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook Herman flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition. Expect the Anaheim Angels to send him down promptly. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Herman.
