Chris Hook
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. If you're going in to face Hook, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. The one thing I must say I don't like about Hook is how easily rattled he gets. If he makes a mistake to a hitter and the guy winds up on second or third, you can pretty much count on the guy scoring. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Hook's curveball tends to hang. He's almost as effective against righthanders as he is versus lefthanders.
Defense & Hitting His pickoff move is merely average. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. Hook is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Hook has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Hook as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook But if you ask me, I'll pass on Hook.
