George Mason
Starting Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching His slider is sharp and breaks both horizontally and vertically. Mason has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. If you're going in to face Mason, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Mason, and that's saying a lot. Mason has had a tendency to fall victim to big innings. The problem is that he has no workable game plan against lefties, who routinely light him up.
Defense & Hitting His pickoff move is only fair. Mason seems distracted after his delivery. He's sometimes out of position, fails to cover a base or doesn't back up throws. Mason is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Mason has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use Mason as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook But if you ask me, I'll pass on Mason.
