Hitting
This guy can't hit a watermelon with a lampost. Melvin always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency.
Baserunning & Defense
Melvin is a poor defensive catcher. He isn't very mobile or adept at blocking balls in the dirt. Runners take advantage of his weak arm. Melvin often has trouble scoring from second base on singles and goes from first to third only on hits to right field.
2010 Outlook
What The Retired or Inactive Players was thinking when they signed Melvin to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks.
