Denny Neagle
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's a pretty good ground-ball pitcher, which I like because ground balls stay in the park. Neagle can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. Neagle also has a decent changeup. Because he can't overpower hitters, Neagle has to fool them instead. He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. Dating back to his days in the minors, Neagle has been more effective against righthanders than lefthanders.
Defense & Hitting He has a fair pickoff move and isn't a particularly easy target for basestealers. Neagle is nothing special in the field. Neagle is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Neagle has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Neagle as a pinch-runner on occasion.
