Hector Ortiz
Catcher | Pittsburgh Pirates
Hitting He has a very quick bat and can adjust to a pitch's movement as well as any hitter in the game. Ortiz is a legitimate run producer. He'll make the adjustments if he gets behind in the count or the game is on the line, spreading out his stance and looking to the opposite field. He's still a singles hitter at heart, and knows how to shorten up and protect the plate with two strikes. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. His home runs tend to come on balls that he can pull down the left-field line.
Baserunning & Defense His defense is solid but unspectacular. His arm is accurate, and he knows when to unload or take his time. He's not a burner but is very aggressive going from first to third or second to home.
2010 Outlook Ortiz is in charge when he's at the plate.
