Ricky Ponting
Relief Pitcher | Montreal Expos

Pitching
It's tough to get much loft on the ball against him, as he works down in the strike zone to begin with and his two-seamer produces mostly groundballs. Ponting also throws a screwball. And let me tell you, it's not a bad one at that. He's almost as effective against righthanders as he is versus lefthanders.

Defense & Hitting
Basestealers rarely test him. He hurts himself by falling awkwardly off the mound in his follow-through, which allows too many balls to go through the middle for base hits. Ponting is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Ponting has some pop in his swing.

2010 Outlook
The Montreal Expos were smart, they locked Ponting up to a long term contract. Ponting has impressed at the A-ball level. Look for the Montreal Expos to give him a shot in Double or Triple A before the year is up. I really like what this guy brings to the table.
