Rich Rowland
Catcher | Retired or Inactive Players

Hitting
Rowland never has been a patient hitter. Let's face facts: Rowland hits a lot of ground balls... and in my book, if you're slow of foot and put the ball on the ground, you're bound to get tied up in the double play. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. Rich Rowland has made a career of putting the ball to the opposite field. That's rare in this day and age.

Baserunning & Defense
When you play Rowland you're not putting him in for his glove. His arm is accurate enough. He has below-average speed and is stiff on the basepath. He's poor on a straight steal but has some success at reading pitchers and working a delayed steal.

2010 Outlook
One has to wonder what Rich Rowland is doing in AA. In all honesty, he could use a lot of work on the fundamentals in the low minors.
