Pete Schourek
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Schourek is a control pitcher; when he's on he has pinpoint control. He is adept at coaxing groundballs with his sinking fastball and plunging curveball, so hitters try to force him to elevate his deliveries and hope that they'll catch too much of the strike zone. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. The bottom also falls out of his very good changeup. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. His pitches lose some movement when he pitches from the stretch position. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting He's average in terms of controlling the running game. Schourek is nothing special in the field. Schourek is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Schourek has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Schourek as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook I really like what this kid brings to the table.
