Jose Silva
Starting Pitcher | Seattle Mariners
Pitching He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Silva's fastball was clocked at 95 MPH most of the season and he kept excellent control of it. Silva can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting He has a fair pickoff move and isn't a particularly easy target for basestealers. He gets off the mound fairly quickly and his throws to first are hard. Silva is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Silva has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook If Silva doesn't perform, the Seattle Mariners won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Seattle Mariners are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
