Pitching
He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. The Boston Red Sox hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Because he can't overpower hitters, Vasbinder has to fool them instead. When his release point drops below three-quarters, his fastball tends to hang in the strike zone. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.

Defense & Hitting
Vasbinder does an average job of holding runners. Vasbinder is nothing special in the field. Vasbinder is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Vasbinder has some pop in his swing.

2010 Outlook
The Boston Red Sox signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Vasbinder like a hot potato if something better comes along.
