Allen Watson
Starting Pitcher | Montreal Expos
Pitching Watson's bread and butter pitch is his slider. I've seen it baffle many a right handed batter. It's tough to get much loft on the ball against him, as he works down in the strike zone to begin with and his two-seamer produces mostly groundballs. Watson can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Watson also has a decent changeup. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him. It's hard to explain but Allen Watson plays much better on the road then he does at home.
Defense & Hitting Watson is nothing special in the field. Watson doesn't make much of an attempt to combat the running game. Basestealers ran at will last year. Watson is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Watson has some pop in his swing.
