Bill Wright
Relief Pitcher | Cleveland Lions
Pitching He has the ability to coax groundballs, which helps him succeed. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. Wright also has a decent changeup. The Cleveland Lions hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Never a hard thrower, Wright now has games when he can't hit 85 MPH with his fastball. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting His slow delivery makes him fairly easy to steal upon, but Wright helps himself by holding runners with throws to first, and with slide steps and varied deliveries to home. Wright doesn't field his position well. Wright is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Wright has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook I can't say I know what The Cleveland Lions were doing locking this guy up to a long term contract. A questionable call at best. Wright has below average skills, even for the low minors. One has to expect the Cleveland Lions will give him his walking papers before the end of the season. I just don't know if The Cleveland Lions are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
