Carlos Zambrano
Starting Pitcher | Baltimore Orioles
Pitching Zambrano likes to get hitters looking down and away, then ties them up by coming inside with hard stuff, getting a lot of groundball outs. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Zambrano also has a decent changeup. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting Zambrano does an average job of holding runners. Zambrano seems distracted after his delivery. He's sometimes out of position, fails to cover a base or doesn't back up throws. Zambrano is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Zambrano has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook The Baltimore Orioles signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Zambrano like a hot potato if something better comes along.
