Richard Almanzar
First Baseman | New York Mets
Hitting Almanzar provides an ongoing clinic on how to hit .300. He works the count in his favor, waiting for his pitch or settling for a walk. He's still a singles hitter at heart, and knows how to shorten up and protect the plate with two strikes. During the last two years, he has become more patient and gotten better loft on the ball. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. He uses the entire field and has gap power.
Baserunning & Defense Almanzar plays a near-flawless first baseman, making very few errors. His arm is accurate enough. Almanzar isn't fast, but he's a heady baserunner who rarely gets thrown out.
