Carlos Crawford
Starting Pitcher | Milwaukee Brewers
Pitching Crawford forces hitters to keep the ball on the ground. He's unflappable on the mound, possessing the confidence to throw any of his offerings at any time in the count. Crawford's control is among the best in the game. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. His slider is sharp and breaks both horizontally and vertically. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. His fastball is just average, and therefore he relies heavily on placing it in different parts of the strike zone or setting it up with his curveball. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting Crawford has lots of energy. He comes off the mound like a cat and doesn't make many errors. Basestealers rarely test him. Crawford is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Crawford has some pop in his swing.
2010 Outlook I don't say this often, but I'll say it for Crawford: he's one of the highest rated pitchers on my scouting sheet.
