Wheezer Decker
Starting Pitcher | Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitching
He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. Though Decker can't just blow the ball by hitters, he has some giddyup on his fastball. The Pittsburgh Pirates hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Because he can't overpower hitters, Decker has to fool them instead. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.

Defense & Hitting
His slow delivery makes him fairly easy to steal upon, but Decker helps himself by holding runners with throws to first, and with slide steps and varied deliveries to home. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Decker is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Decker has some pop in his swing.
