Mark Dewey
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. Dewey has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. Dewey also has a decent changeup. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. When his release point drops below three-quarters, his fastball tends to hang in the strike zone. Dating back to his days in the minors, Dewey has been more effective against righthanders than lefthanders.
Defense & Hitting His move to first isn't very good, but his delivery is fairly quick and he isn't overly vulnerable to the stolen base. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. Dewey is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Dewey has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Dewey as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook AA isn't the right place for Dewey. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down for some minor retooling. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
