He has a natural lift to his swing, which produces few groundballs. The Free Agents do tend to sit Friel when the opposing team throws a lefty. It's no secret he can't touch the left-handed breaking ball.

Baserunning & Defense
Friel isn't a fluid right fielder, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. Runners take advantage of his weak arm. He has below-average speed and is stiff on the basepath. He's poor on a straight steal but has some success at reading pitchers and working a delayed steal.

2010 Outlook
I can't say I know what The Free Agents were doing locking this guy up to a long term contract. A questionable call at best.
