Brian Givens
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Steals sometimes unnerve Givens, who isn't blessed with extraordinary self-confidence. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting Givens is nothing special in the field. Basestealers have succeeded against Givens because his pickoff move is weak for a lefthander. Givens is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Givens has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Givens as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook But if you ask me, I'll pass on Givens.
