Sherlock Holmes
Catcher | Idaho Sporks

Hitting
Holmes is an excellent mistake hitter who belts middle-of-the-plate fastballs or hanging breaking balls. One of the nice things about Sherlock is that he's a real clutch hitter. Holmes was a line-drive hitter when he first came up, but over the last few years has become more of a true home-run hitter, lofting more high flyballs. While his home-run power is almost exclusively to left field, he hits doubles everywhere.

Baserunning & Defense
He doesn't get good jumps on grounders, but his routes are fine and his hands aren't bad. His arm is accurate enough. Holmes is an intelligent baserunner with average speed, but he's not a basestealing threat.

2010 Outlook
The Idaho Sporks were smart, they locked Holmes up to a long term contract. Holmes has impressed at the A-ball level. Look for the Idaho Sporks to give him a shot in Double or Triple A before the year is up.
