Ramon Martinez
Starting Pitcher | Chicago White Sox
Pitching His sinking two-seam fastball and slider produce tons of groundballs. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Martinez also has a decent changeup. The Chicago White Sox hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. His composure needs work. When Martinez starts getting hit, he gets mad and loses concentration. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. Martinez has been regarded as a poor fielder throughout his career, and last year was no different. Martinez is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Martinez has some pop in his swing.
