Hideki Matsui
Left Fielder | St. Louis Cardinals
Hitting In past seasons, Matsui has been a bit of a liability with men on base. I tell you, it's a real trip to watch this kid play. He gives 110% all the time... unfortunately that means he tends to run out of gas as the game wears on. He hangs in well against lefthanders' breaking balls, and some of the pitchers he hits best are the southpaw specialists often brought in to face him. One thing's for sure, Hideki Matsui is a dead-pull hitter. It's hard to explain but Hideki Matsui plays much better on the road then he does at home.
Baserunning & Defense Matsui isn't a fluid left fielder, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. His arm is accurate enough. Matsui isn't a good baserunner. He doesn't get good jumps on steals nor runs sharp routes around the bases.
2010 Outlook In two full big league seasons, Matsui already has done more than what scouts projected when he came out of college.
