Johnny Mertes
Left Fielder | Free Agents

Hitting
This guy can't hit a watermelon with a lampost. Mertes always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency.

Baserunning & Defense
His arm and range are average, and he has a tendency to get lazy with his feet. Mertes doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a few bases each season without getting caught very often.

2010 Outlook
What The Free Agents was thinking when they signed Mertes to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks.
