Jeff Nelson
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching His sinking two-seam fastball and slider produce tons of groundballs. I've seen Nelson work himself into a jam on occassion. The good thing about him is that he knows how to work himself out of them. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. His slider is sharp and breaks both horizontally and vertically. Nelson's fastball is a tick above average, in the 90-91 MPH range on most nights. Nelson also has a decent changeup. He traditionally fares better against lefties. He struggles away from home.
Defense & Hitting He has a fair pickoff move and isn't a particularly easy target for basestealers. Nelson is nothing special in the field. Nelson is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Nelson has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Nelson as a pinch-runner on occasion.
