Hitting
This guy can't hit a watermelon with a lampost. He has a natural lift to his swing, which produces few groundballs. He hangs in well against lefthanders' breaking balls, and some of the pitchers he hits best are the southpaw specialists often brought in to face him.

Baserunning & Defense
When you play Phillips you're not putting him in for his glove. His arm is accurate enough. He has below-average speed and is stiff on the basepath. He's poor on a straight steal but has some success at reading pitchers and working a delayed steal.
