AJ Pierzynski
Catcher | Boston Red Sox

Hitting
Pierzynski quickly learned that he could drive the ball out the opposite way. That knowledge has made him a better hitter because he now uses the entire field. He has a natural lift to his swing, which produces few groundballs. He hangs in well against lefthanders' breaking balls, and some of the pitchers he hits best are the southpaw specialists often brought in to face him. His strength is in the gaps.

Baserunning & Defense
Pierzynski doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a few bases each season without getting caught very often. When you play Pierzynski you're not putting him in for his glove. He has a strong, accurate arm.
