Pitching
The Free Agents hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Powell, and that's saying a lot. He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. He attacks lefties and righties the same way.

Defense & Hitting
He's average in terms of controlling the running game. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Powell is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Powell has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Free Agents have been known to use Powell as a pinch-runner on occasion.

2010 Outlook
What The Free Agents was thinking when they signed Powell to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Powell.

Hitting
One of the nice things about John is that he's a real clutch hitter. Powell never has been a patient hitter. Powell always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency.

Baserunning & Defense
No longer much of a threat to steal, he's smart enough to make pitchers pay if they ignore him. When you play Powell you're not putting him in for his glove. John's arm leaves a little to be a desired.

2010 Outlook
