Warren Sphann
Starting Pitcher | Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitching
I love Sphann's sinker. This thing plummets like a rock at 59 feet. He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Sphann's fastball was clocked at 95 MPH most of the season and he kept excellent control of it. He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. He's almost as effective against righthanders as he is versus lefthanders. It's hard to explain but Warren Sphann plays much better on the road then he does at home.

Defense & Hitting
Sphann's move to first base is average. He gets off the mound fairly quickly and his throws to first are hard. Sphann is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Sphann has some pop in his swing.
