Kevin Tapani
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Tapani can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. Never a hard thrower, Tapani now has games when he can't hit 85 MPH with his fastball. But Tapani, do us a favor. Stop throwing that changeup. It looks like a beachball. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting His move to first isn't very good, but his delivery is fairly quick and he isn't overly vulnerable to the stolen base. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Tapani is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Tapani has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Tapani as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2010 Outlook If Tapani doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
