Hitting
Valentine is an excellent mistake hitter who belts middle-of-the-plate fastballs or hanging breaking balls. But Michael's detracters are quick to call attention to his ongoing struggles at the plate with men on base. Most of his hits come against lefties. You can expect Michael Valentine to hit the ball to the opposite field... that's just the kind of hitter he is.

Baserunning & Defense
Valentine isn't a fluid shortstop, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. His arm is accurate enough. Valentine doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a few bases each season without getting caught very often.
