John VanderWal
First Baseman | Retired or Inactive Players

Hitting
He has the mental discipline to handle clutch situations. VanderWal always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency.

Baserunning & Defense
VanderWal doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a few bases each season without getting caught very often. His glovework leaves a lot to be desired. His arm is accurate enough.

2010 Outlook
If VanderWal doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors.
