Joe Vitiello
First Baseman | Cincinnati Reds
Hitting Vitiello is an excellent mistake hitter who belts middle-of-the-plate fastballs or hanging breaking balls. He generates most of his power against lefthanders. He has the mental discipline to handle clutch situations. Let's face facts: Vitiello hits a lot of ground balls... and in my book, if you're slow of foot and put the ball on the ground, you're bound to get tied up in the double play. It's sort of unfortunate that Joe has such difficulties with right handed pitching. You simply can't be an everyday player in this league with that kind of weakness. Joe Vitiello has made a career of putting the ball to the opposite field. That's rare in this day and age. He struggles away from home.
Baserunning & Defense He also has a strong and accurate arm, and isn't afraid to look for the force at second or third. He has below-average speed and is stiff on the basepath. He's poor on a straight steal but has some success at reading pitchers and working a delayed steal.
