John Wayne
Relief Pitcher | Philadelphia Phillies
Pitching Though Wayne can't just blow the ball by hitters, he has some giddyup on his fastball. He always throws strikes but is very hittable. Wayne has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. His curveball is inconsistent, but when it's sharp it's a solid complement to his fastball. Because he can't overpower hitters, Wayne has to fool them instead. Wayne has no endurance. He's good for an inning an outing, tops. The problem is that he has no workable game plan against lefties, who routinely light him up.
Defense & Hitting Wayne uses a slide step to keep runners close. Wayne is nothing special in the field. Wayne is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Wayne has some pop in his swing.
