FBL Biorhythm: Top Free AgentsTop 5 Unsigned Free Agents

1. Sterling Hitchcock - Hitchcock can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. Hitchcock is nothing special in the field. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. Teams run on him more than they do most lefthanders. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders. Hitchcock is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Hitchcock has some pop in his swing.

2. Stacy Hollins - Hollins can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Hollins also has a decent changeup. Though he lacks a good pickoff move, he checks the running game with a compact stretch delivery. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. He attacks lefties and righties the same way. Hollins is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Hollins has some pop in his swing.

3. Steve Bourgeois - Bourgeois also has a decent changeup. He has a fair pickoff move and isn't a particularly easy target for basestealers. Bourgeois is nothing special in the field. The Free Agents hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Because he can't overpower hitters, Bourgeois has to fool them instead. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success. Bourgeois is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Bourgeois has some pop in his swing.

4. Darryl Kile - He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. Kile does an average job of holding runners. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! If you're going in to face Kile, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success. Kile is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Kile has some pop in his swing.

5. Dude Tiffany - Tiffany is a control pitcher; when he's on he has pinpoint control. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. For a lefty, his move to first base is average at best, and he has a tendency to forget about runners at second, thereby creating opportunities to swipe third. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! Tiffany seems distracted after his delivery. He's sometimes out of position, fails to cover a base or doesn't back up throws. He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. This man owns lefties. Put it this way, if your lineup is full of them, you might want rethink your lineup. Tiffany is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Tiffany has some pop in his swing.
